Worry is useful when it changes our behavior in productive ways."

- Seth Godin

Pearl Jam - Even Flow

I was a late comer to Pearl Jam, like most things. They are great and have an enormous back catalogue, check them out if you don't already know.

3) Quote of the week.

"If you can learn to share what you hope to communicate, written in a way that even a stranger can understand, you'll not only improve your communication, you'll learn to think more clearly as well." - Seth Godin

Can you tell I read a lot of Seth Godin?

4) Article of the week.

How to shoot on iPhone 7.

This is a very useful article on taking photos with an iPhone. A good photographer is a worthwhile investment, but sometimes you don't have anything to invest, so do it yourself with the help of this guide (it applies to other iPhones and phone photography in general).

5) Gig of the week.

Krysthla, Black Ink Sun, Thrones and Siderian at The King Billy, Northampton

Same as last week as THIS GIG IS TONIGHT. Go to it, if you want to see both technically and melodically talented musicians then this is for you.

I like Paramore, and so do most people (apart from those that think it's cool not to like them). The new album is fun.

3) Quote of the week.

"The habits we groove become who we are, one minute at a time. A small thing, repeated, is not a small thing." - Seth Godin

4) Article of the week.

How many people does it take to write a hit song?

A fascinating article on collaboration in modern pop. A cursory search into most of the top 40 these days shows just how many people are involved in pop music tracks.

5) Gig of the week.

Krysthla, Black Ink Sun, Thrones and Siderian at The King Billy, Northampton

This is the most powerful line-up in a long time. Volume, riffs, aggression, speed, melody, they've got it all. NOT TO BE MISSED.

Speak to you next Friday,

Josh

3) Quote of the week;

5) Gig of the week;

Basically, the keys to everything you've ever wanted.

Hey folks, here it is. Friday 22nd July's top five. It's my consolidated list of all things awesome this week. Feel free to share it around to whomever you think appropriate!

Here we go;

1) Video of the week;

Francis and the Lights - Friends ft. Bon Iver and Kanye West

2) Book of the week;

AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take On Leadership, Social Media and Self-Awareness.

This is an excellent book, and so much that applies to more than just business. I listened to the audiobook. I only listen to audiobooks now, partially as I can do it while walking or doing other walk, and also as you can listen to it on 1.5x speed, meaning you can get through it much faster.

3) Quote of the week;

"Excuses, on the other hand, are merely fear out loud." - Seth Godin.

4) Documentary of the week;

Pedal.

It's a very interesting documentary on the fixie/messenger scene in New York. I bet you want to buy a fixie when you're done.

5) Thing of the week;

Audiobooks. Audiobooks are my thing of the week. Book read by the author are better as no-one knows the material like they do. Also, you can listen to them whilst doing other things, and with the 1.5x speed playback feature you can really rattle through them. Audible actually do introductory offer to get you going, so worth the free trial either way.

Speak to you Monday.

Josh.

Life lessons from Skepta.

Friday 20th May's top five is;

1) Video of the week;

Skepta - Man

I'm really late to the party with Skepta, having only given it a listen this last week, but it's  really good. I need to look up on Grime history, if any of you know, then hook me up.

2) Gig of the week;

2016 Northampton County Beer Festival

If you like beer, cider, ale, lager (and probably all the boozes) food and music then this is the place to be this weekend. Live music all weekend too. In my experience it does get busy so get in early to avoid cues.

3) Quote of the week;

"The moment you feel like giving up that's the moment you lose." - Skepta

I like this one because I'm not sure I agree with it. I've felt like giving up a few times, but that's when you either find your resolve and carry on, or actually give up. Still, if it helps you keep on pushing then it's all good.

4) Article of the week;

Seth Godin's Blog.

Seth Godin is a marketing guru of sorts, but not in that 'sign-up to my online course for $1000 and I'll tell you how to get that yacht' kind of way. He send daily e-mails, some one sentence some one page, but always insightful and informative. Usually stories or insights that give you genuine ideas about how to approach things, either designing/selling a product or choosing where to buy your groceries. The only blog that I read every single email from.

5) Thing of the week;

Headspace. I used to think meditation was a bit too patchouli, lentils and hippy-dippy for me. It turns out it's not, it's fairly straight forward and really beneficial. I say use Headspace because it's free to download and they do a free 10 minutes a day for 10 days course, give it a go, you'll be surprised.

See you next week,

Josh.
